Dear Diary It’s me Anna again, life is looking grim at this point in time. Father has recently passed away from the plague and mother seems to be getting sick too. My little brother Matt has been coughing a lot lately and I am very concerned for him. If I were to lose him and mom I wouldn’t know what to do. I would be the only one left, with no reason to go on any longer. My father first got sick 5 days ago, when he collapsed on the street on his way to the bakery. We had to haul him back and tuck him into bed. His skin grew very warm, and he had trouble breathing at night. Soon he grew too weak to open his eyes, and then the bumps appeared. They appeared all over his frail and worn body, growing to the size of eggs! My eyes stung as I watched him writhe in pain, and the worst part was that we couldn’t do a thing. My mother tried to give him a cup of tea to soothe his nerves but he refused to drink it or eat anything at all. By day 4 he was lying still without talking to anyone. My mother tried to get a doctor, but so many people were now inflected with the plague, that it was virtually impossible to find an available doctor. Luckily my mother was able to snag a doctor, his name was Doctor Reed. He gave my father a once over look and pronounced him as good as dead, well he didn’t exactly say “dead” but he implied that. He told us he would be dead for sure by the end of the week, little did we know his prediction was right. To prevent us from getting the plague we wore bird-like masks that prevented the toxic air from infecting us. My mask has long black beak, with two tiny holes for breathing. My mother then mixed spices to put into the front of our masks, the spices were said to prevent the toxins from entering in the tiny holes. I don’t honestly believe they work, but there is nothing else we can do so there are only hopes. Mother is calling me so I must go now, but I’ll try to be back soon.
